To turn off AutoPlay in Windows 11 using the Group Policy Editor, follow these steps:
π§ Method: Disable AutoPlay via Group Policy (GPO)
Applies to: Windows 11 Pro, Enterprise, and Education editions (Group Policy Editor is not available in Home edition by default)
✅ Step-by-Step Instructions

Open Group Policy Editor

Press
Windows + R
to open the Run dialog. -
Type:
gpedit.msc

Press Enter to open the Local Group Policy Editor.

Navigate to AutoPlay Settings

In the left pane, go to:
Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → Windows Components → AutoPlay Policies

Configure 'Turn off AutoPlay' Policy

In the right pane, double-click on “Turn off AutoPlay”.

Set it to Enabled.

Under Options, set “Turn off AutoPlay on:” to “All drives”.

Click Apply, then OK.

(Optional) Disable AutoPlay for CD/DVD and Removable Drives Separately

Also configure:

Set the default behavior for AutoRun

Disallow AutoPlay for non-volume devices

Force Group Policy Update (Optional)

To apply the change immediately, press

, type:gpupdate /force

Press Enter.

π Effect of This Policy

Disables AutoPlay for all drives including USB, CDs/DVDs, and network drives.

Prevents AutoPlay dialog boxes from appearing when you connect a device or insert media.

Insert a USB or CD/DVD.
